We once stood in the shadows surrounded by emptiness, but were too giddy to realize it. At ten we pored from our class and by ten o two we stood in a circle like a peace pipe smoking ceremony. We laughed, clapped, ran, dodged, and lept as worries quickly took a back seat. We all had our reasons for being there, but one thing we all shared was hack-e-sack.
A year later and the once frolic upon ground stood lifeless and cold. Only the sounds of passing traffic and sirens filled the space. What was once a sanctuary for forgetting has now been forgotten. Friends have come and gone like the circle we once stood in. Some still stand, but in smaller circles, further apart, without the active happy us that once was.

The New Rudeness

I wanted to write about something that has really been bugging me for the last few years. People being rude. What has happen? Where did we go wrong? Or is it just the new way. I have worked in retail for 20 years now and this is where I see it the most. I know that most people don’t like to go shopping and its a real boring and in inconvenience. But does that give people the right to be rude? I work in a produce department in a health food store and here’s what i get the most. “Corn?” says an old man. I reply “Hi how are you? “Corn” says the old man. I say “Hi” again. and once again “Corn” the old man says. I point and walk away. This happens so often not even a “Excuse me wheres the corn” or a “thank you”. Which would be the polite thing to say. Over the years I have tried to find ways to deal with this without coming off as a smart ass or dick about it. So I kill them with kindness. So heres how I do it. ”Corn” the old man says. Hi how are you? I say. “Corn” he says again. “I’m fine how are you?” “Corn” the old man says once again.”Oh wheres the Corn, its right over there”. He walks away and I say ” Thank you”.
You might think of this coming from a teenager or some kid. But most of it is from older people. Which I find so strange to think that these people were the ones that were suppose to teach us manners. So what happen to these people ?? Did they just give up or did they forget or did they just give up on the new generations. Now I have also had people realize what they did and apologize and feel really bad and say “wow I was rude of me”. I have almost gotten in fights over it. But I find that most people won’t complain cause when your being rude how can you complain. I also will have people behind me saying “Corn” and if they don’t say excuse me I wont turn around. I will just pretend that I don’t hear them until they say excuse me and then I kill them with the kindness. It’s just a few simple words that some people have forgotten and to me it’s just rude. I might be a little hardcore on this. But over the years I feel that if your over 50 and don’t get how to communicate with people your really not worth my time.
