First Step – Knowing when to change a diaper
Probably not one of the most thought of steps for this process so we will begin here. Take a look at your baby, is he/she fussy even though their already fed? This could be a good indicator that it’s time. Another way to discover this is probably not the one most chosen but is actually probably the most effective. Pick your baby up, hold her/him close to you and then lift them so that their belly is about where your nose is… Take a big whiff. You’re not actually smelling the baby’s stomach but in fact smelling the fumes that may be coming up from the diaper. Now, by this point if you’re still smelling and reading this at the same time, I commend you most people would have passed out from the dirty diaper that they are now inhaling. Let’s move to the next step.
Second Step – Preparing to change the diaper
This is where a lot of thought is needed because if you don’t do this step right you may be in for some extremely troubling nightmares (more so if you’re the father and not the mother who is probably used to this.) If possible place a disposable changing pad onto the changing area before laying your baby down, If you don’t have a disposable changing pad don’t worry about it’s not the end of the world you’ll just have to move 10 times faster than the rest of us. Now, with the baby down make sure (and this is one of the most important parts) make sure to have a couple of wipes out of the bin or bag and have them at the ready just in case you find something quite unexpected and to speed along the process so that you don’t end up having to play “Fumbling for wipes while holding the babies feet in the air because they decided to keep going to the bathroom.” Finally, undo the babies clothing and raise it so that it is nowhere near the lower region of their body, because trust me you don’t want to have to scrub a babies onesie that’s covered in a foreign green substance (which is odd because all they eat is white milk o.O go fig.)
Third Step – Changing the Diaper
Ah, the step we’ve all been waiting for…or haven’t. With the diaper exposed undo both of the little tabs on either side of their waist. Now, open the diaper and take a gander at what your little clone decided to leave you, if you’re lucky it’s just a moist diaper, if luck is something you’re looking up in the dictionary right now I will make sure to shed a tear for you later. Now grab one of those wipes we got out earlier and begin to quickly wipe down everything below the waist as quickly as you can! No, No, not the feet just the thighs and pelvic area as well as their butt. Once you’ve wiped them down thoroughly place the wipe inside the used diaper and slide it out from under them and set it aside (Yes, set it aside for now despite the horrible smell emanating from it, unless you are quick enough to wrap it up, close the tabs and dispose of it before your child decides to play target practice with you and the rest of the room.) Quickly slip the new diaper underneath them..What? I forgot to tell you to get one ready in the previous step? HaHa you better hurry because their bladder is a ticking time bomb, RUN! Now, since I was smart enough to get one prepped beforehand I’m going to quickly slide the new diaper under their bottom with the tabbed part going under first. Then with the tabs out to the sides I’m going to fold the bottom part of the diaper up and over their waist, hold it there with one hand and use the other to open the tabs and pull them over to latch onto the front of the diaper. Once you’ve completed this~Tada! You’re done changing the diaper. Well except for that one you left open which for some of you, may have caused you to go light headed and pass out momentarily, in which case you are the ones who are going to have the most FUN being a parent. So button that babies clothes back up and go douse yourself in some nice smelling flowers because in about an hour or two, guess what you get to do again!?
