The setting :
{ A dorm in a small town college. It’s been snowing for 6 days straight. Most students are forced to stay inside. Those who willingly went out were those working or with prior obligations. Sally decided to invite everyone in her hall to her suite to watch the Jaws series. The hallway is decorated with various items from the movie drawn on large posterboard, since they just won the school’s hallway decorating content }
The scene opens with Sally sitting on her bed, listening to her headphones and flipping through a magazine. She heard the door open and looks up to see her roomate Lacy enter with a stack of books, she has just finished her psychology class.
Sally – You scared me!
Lacy – I’m sorry i forgot my key card, but I notice the door was latched. Why is the door always latched?
Sally – Everyone in our hall does it, makes it easier when people want to visit
Lacy – Don’t make me start reading those serial killer books to you before bedtime again.
Sally laughs and tosses a pillow across the room
Sally – You wouldn’t!
Lacy walks over to the window “Wow it’s really coming down out there, I wish I didn’t have to leave and go to rehearsal tonight
Sally – You seem to be enjoying your self more each time you go, any reason?
Lacy – Well there is a guy
Sally – A crush! I knew it, who is it?
Lacy – You know that Steven guy?
Sally – The one who walks around with the tight pants, the high voice and (immatating him) the gestures? Don’t you think hes a little…
Lacy – I know, I know I think hes just really in touch with his femminine side. Anyways, what are you doing tonight?
Sally – Some people from the hall are coming over for a jaws-a-thon
Lacy – How appropriate! (She smiles and grabs her jacket) I wish I could be there, have fun!
She grabs her coat and scarf from the closet and exit from the main door.
Scene 2 :
A few hours later Sally is sitting in her room, messing around on her computer and waiting for everyone to come. Its still only 10:45 and she told everyone 11. The familiar sound of the door (This is the second time we hear the door click open – this time we know the door was latched. ) Misgided drunk girls stumbles in and look around. She recognizes her as the visiting sister of one of her dorm mates. Friend 1 walks in right behind her with a shocked and confused look on his face
Friend 1: I was walking right behind her as I was walking down the hall. I literally saw her fall out of her sisters room.
Sally – What do you mean?
Friend 1: I mean she actually appeared to be falling. She was going down – bouncing off the walls and she happened to be perfectly aligned with your door when she bounced right in.
Sally – You’re kidding me!
They both look up, misguided drunk girl has walked over to Sallys bed, pulled the comforter out, gotten in and actually fallen asleep.
Still laughing, almost to a point where they can’t breathe
Sally – What do we do now?
People start arriving to the room.
Friend 2: Whats going on? (He looks around, and sees the sleeping girl) hey! whats Amber’s sister doing here?
We were all down drinking at the purpe pig pub and and she came back to sleep. Why is she sleeping in your bed?
Sally – She literally wandered in here, thinking this was her sisters room. She stood there, looked right at me then waked over to my bed and fell asleep.
Friend 2: Are you serious! Oh my gosh
Everyone starts to gather around the sleeping teenager. They try and decided what to do next.
Friend 1: I can’t…{laughter} believe it
Everyone in the room is still laughing hysterically.
Sally shakes her .
Sally: Hey are you lost?
She pokes her a little harder. Shakes her a little harder.
Sally: Wake up
Everyone makes attempts to wake her. While they are fussing she rolls over.
Friend 1: Shes responsive!
Sally: Guys could you just carry her back to where she belongs?
They pull her covers off.
Drunk girl: Keeep doing that, it feels good.
Pause for laughter.
They pick her up and carry her out the room. As they exit, the lights dim.
