Alright Vs All Right

A quick search of Google revealed the answer to this troubling question. I stumbled onto a page entitled “Is ‘alright’ all right?”.

The information on this page implied that the proper usage is “All Right”, with “Alright” being used mostly in social situations. The page says, ” In some circles, alright has become an accepted usage interchangeable with most uses of all right, particularly in dialogue. Generally, most editors and teachers don’t think “alright” is all right. If you’re in doubt, it’s best to stick with the more widely accepted two-word “all right,” especially in formal academic or professional writing.”

Grammar Girl states something similar, stating that “If you tend to forget, just use the dictionary to check the spelling, and remember that “alright” as one word is currently not acceptable English, though it may become so in the future.”

If that isn’t enough for you, watch this.
