When using abbreviations on the internet, you must pay particular attention to your audience. Blog writing for example is conversational. Some abbreviations have become commonplace to the online world. The use of abbreviations on the internet is justifiable if the target audience knows what they mean. If uncommon abbreviations are used then a parenthesis should be use [i.e. BTW(by the way)]

Some examples of abbreviations are as follows:
lol = laughing out loud
lmfao = laughing my ass off
rotfl = rolling on the floor laughing
brb = bee right back
ftw = for the win
bbl = be back later
143 = i love you
bff = best friends forever
gg = good game
