The players that join the league usually have a reputation in their home cities as the best “ballers” in the city. Some come from college and gain a reputation in the streets, others already have it, and nevertheless, this league consists of very talented players.
Although And1 brings the excitement of street ball to fans around the word, and have some of the best street players in the United States, the NBA has the best players. The NBA recruits players not only in the United States, but also from all around the world. These players are professionals and if an elite player in the NBA would play against the elite players in And 1, The NBA players would win. Furthermore, only one player from And1 has actually made it to the NBA and succeeded. This proves that the NBA players are just on another level.
The entertainment factor in both leagues is very high. Although And 1 is a fairly new league, the entertainment that they produce appeals to both fans of street ball, and fans of the NBA. Since the leagues’ origins, they have produced clothing, lines; mix tapes that show the skills of the leagues players, and a television show. And 1 appeals mainly to the younger audiences. It is not an organized basketball league like the NBA, where there are different plays and teams, and where role players play a significant part in the teams’ success. The And 1 is mainly for players with a high skill level, but is mostly based on a “show-time” type of attitude, where players can get away with certain violations that make it more exciting for some.
One cannot argue that both leagues consist of very talent basketball players. Both leagues have a big fan base, and fans of the sport can watch both, and satisfy their entertainment needs. Although players in And 1 have the skills to beat players in the streets, they would not be able to make it in the National Basketball Association. The combination of skill level, discipline, and knowledge of organized play, sets them apart. As both leagues continue to grow and gain more and more fans, maybe one day these two leagues can play against each other and fans can enjoy the talent and skill the leagues posses.
