New York, New York

I’ve been in cold weather before but never anything like this. How I miss the warm California weather. The conditions here are unbearably cold. You can see everyone’s breath as they exhale creating a small fog like form. I am amazed as to the amount of people still showing up. But why wouldn’t they? This event happens only once a year. That’s why I’m here. The streets are already completely filled but more and more people continue to squeeze their way in. I gaze up at the clock and notice the event everyone has been waiting for will occur in a matter of minutes.

Cameras are flashing left and right all around me. Police officers are stationed through out the area. People are wearing blue hats like that of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. Buildings bear ads for musicals, clothes and movies. Far ahead I can see a stage and a performer singing and dancing. High above on balcony’s, television stations are broadcasting the event. This is the day many of us will remember for the rest of our lives.

The big screen displays 60 seconds and anticipation emerges as the moment draws near. One can see the emotion in everyone by their expressions and actions. As couples begin to cuddle up, parents raise their children in their arms and friends begin to nudge at each other. 30 seconds left. Throughout there is yelling, shouting and grunting. Its like the fans at a Charger game celebrating a victory only fiercely louder, if possible. 10 seconds. I’m going to be deaf after this. 10. Oh man 9. Wow 8. Aah 7. Woo! 6.Woo!  5. Woo!4. Yeah! 3.  Woo! 2. Here it comes 1…Happy New Year!
