Photoshop Quick Tip: “How to step and repeat in Photoshop”

topj00I was tutoring a friend the other day. The topic was web design & I noticed that she had spaced out her navigation buttons by measuring out each one and marking it with a guide. I politely asked,”why don’t you step & repeat”? She confusingly replied, “but you can’t do that in Photoshop”. This was awesome! I actually got to show her something that would make her design life a lot easier and now I am going to share the same tip with you.

I use this trick mainly for making website navigation, but it can be used for any repeated object.

Step 1)
Create the object.

Step 2)
While on the object layer press Command + option + T.
It will look like nothing happened, but if you look in your layers pallete you will see a new copy of your object.

Step 3)
Move your object the desired amount then press enter.

Step 4) “This is where it gets cool.”
While holding down Command + option + Shift, press the T the desired amount of objects.

“Pretty cool, huh?”
